Big Budget Update

- Friday was an important day in this year's budget cycle. Governor Jerry Brown signed 13 trailer bills that implement $11.2 billion of budget solutions (mostly cuts, and some rearrangements). Senate Budget Committee Reduces THP-Plus Cut, Other Cuts

- In a budget hearing on February 17th, the Senate Committee on Budget and Finance rejected Governor Brown's proposed $19 million cut to THP-Plus, proposing instead to cut only $5 million and adding language to the bill that would prevent any beds from being lost. Alameda County Superior Court blocks child care cuts

- Capitol Alert reports today that Alameda County Superior Court Judge Wynne Carvill has blocked Governor Schwarzenegger's cut of child care services for CalWORKS recipients pending a decision in a lawsuit filed to overturn the cut. The child care program specifically helps parents who have ended CalWORKS and are now working, but can't afford to pay for child care on their own. Read the full story here.Read more »

- Supervisor Keith Carson convened the Alameda County Budget Work Group on both Monday April 19th and Wednesday the 21st. On Monday, County Comments 0Administrator Susan Muranishi presented the 2010-11 Maintenance of Effort Budget that identified the county's projected shortfall for next fiscal year at $184.4 million. Governor to Release Draft Budget Tomorrow

California Youth Connection Day at the Capitol: February 1st
