Report Released: Youth Homelessness in the Era of AB 12

- When AB 12, California’s Fostering Connections to Success Act, became law in January 2012, it opened a door to the possibility of safety and stability for older homeless youth and youth at risk of homelessness by providing for the expansion of federally funded, mandated supports and services to foster youth ages 18-21. We launched the Alameda County AB 12 Homeless Youth Demonstration Project to coincide with the implementation of this extraordinary new law.

Governor Brown Releases 2011-2012 Budget

- Released on Monday at 11:00 AM, Governor Brown’s first budget of his third term institutes deep cuts to welfare, higher education and government (among other things), while attempting to extend temporary tax measures and appropriate revenue from restricted sources. Brown's budget also relies on a plan to decentralize a number of services to localities and support their efforts to raise revenue locally. - Assembly Bill 12 (AB 12): California Fostering Connections Act was signed into law by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on September 30, 2010. This bill, which advocates and stakeholders fought for for 2 years, includes a number of improvements to the Kin-GAP program and extends foster care to age 21.
