Family Support Services of the Bay Area

Mission

FSSBA’s mission is to support children, youth, families and communities by providing services that make them stronger.

Services

Respite / Childcare: Our professionally trained childcare providers provide in-home, out-of-home and site-based intermittent childcare to ensure that parents and other caregivers of children with special needs are able to take the time they need for self-care.

Family Preservation: Staff provide intensive home-based services to families whose children are at high risk for out-of-home placement.

Kinship Support Services: When grandparents and other relatives step into the role of primary caregiver upon the absence of a child’s birth parents, our Kinship Program provides a broad range of supportive services to strengthen family connections and create a safe, nurturing environment.

Kinship Youth: Our Kinship Youth Program provides year-round academic support, leadership opportunities, mentorship, recreational activities, and community service opportunities.

OreMi Mentoring: Mentors spend time each week with a child who has a parent in the state or federal prison system. The one-on-one mentoring relationship develops the potential of each child and seeks to break the intergenerational cycle of crime and incarceration.

About Family Support Services of the Bay Area

Family Support Services of the Bay Area (FSSBA) is a private, nonprofit organization that provides home-based and community-based supportive services to parents and other caregivers of vulnerable children. Each year, FSSBA serves over 2,000 at risk children who are from low-income families in Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco Counties. FSSBA provides tailor-made services through individualized programs that help each family address their specific needs and keep their families intact.

"FSSBA supports children, families, and communities in avoiding long term involvement with foster care by focusing on prevention, early intervention, and permanency. "

-Reed Connell, FYA Director
