Families First

Mission

FamiliesFirst is dedicated to bettering the lives of children and their families through the best possible treatment and support services and to assuring that those services are at all times respectful, caring, efficient and effective.

Services

Transitional Housing Program (THP) : The Transitional Housing Program (THP) serves a limited number of adolescent clients (ages 16-19) who are in the process of emancipating from the foster care program. The goal is to successfully transition youth out of the foster care system. The primary objective for youth in the THP is a safe living situation and the ability to be self-supporting (for some youth, self-supporting may mean accessing resources such as financial aid, student loans or relative assistance). Transitional housing teaches foster youth first-hand what it is like to live independently. It provides youth with the opportunity to try, fail, and learn new methods of behaving and living in the community while at the same time giving them a safe place to practice their new skills.

About Families First

The FamiliesFirst organization dates back to 1974 when The Praul Center Residential Treatment Program (RTP) was founded in Davis with two staff members serving three emotionally disturbed boys in a family home. Today the agency has more than 550 associates serving 10,000 children annually across Northern California.

"Families First is one of California's premier providers of diverse, innovative programming for foster youth and their families. "

-Reed Connell, FYA Director
