2010 FYA Conference

A huge thank you to everyone who participated in our first Transition Age Youth conference, Journey to Change: Navigating with Power & Purpose on September 24, 2010. FYA was pleased to host this conference with Casey Family Programs and the UC Berkeley Center for Child and Youth Policy with the generous support of the Stuart Foundation.
Organized around the experiences and needs of transition age youth, and offering insights drawn from 10 years of Alameda County’s leadership in the field, the day brought together over 150 attendees– almost half young adults with current or previous involvement with the Child Welfare, Probation or Mental Health systems. Every aspect of the day had been planned in full and equal partnership with a dedicated group of 9 young adult planners, and was designed to be equally accessible to young adults, their supporters, and professionals. Workshops, led by youth and adults, received stellar evaluations by young adults and professionals.
In conversation with our participants and planners at the end of the day, it was clear that our program themes of Reaffirmation and Rededication to Meaningful Partnership with Youth resonated throughout the community. Many asked that FYA take the lead in ensuring that the conversation continue, and that our member agencies and community partners are supported in including youth in every aspect of program design and decision making. We at FYA now commit to doing so – so keep in touch, and we will, too. Download the program.
