Thanks to all who came out on Tuesday, May 29th for the Foster Youth Alliance’s 2012 Celebration of Community Heroes, Toward a Brighter Future. What an incredibly inspiring group of honorees! Poet and YAP fellow Ralph Hall kicked off the evening by reciting a gorgeous new poem, and the heartfelt speeches by nominators and honorees left not a dry eye in the house. Thank you to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors for the official commendations for our honorees, and to Aisha Brown and Mina Sanchez of Supervisor Keith Carson’s office for partnering with FYA to convey the honors.
We were also honored to hear remarks on the groundbreaking, nationally recognized Alameda County Youth Advocate Program by Michelle Love, Director of Children & Family Services, and April Fernando of WestCoast Children’s Clinic.
It was truly a delight to be joined by so many members of the community. Special thanks to FYA members and friends WestCoast Children’s Clinic, B:E, BAYC, Seneca Center, AASK, American Indian Child Resource Center, Alameda County Office of Education, Renaissance Scholars at CSUEB, Smith Renaissance Society, Casey Family Programs, CYC, EBCLO, Alameda County Department of Children & Family Services, OUSD, Foster a Dream, Larry Robbin, CASA, ILSP, and Frances Fortini of Assemblymember Nancy Skinner’s office.
