Today! New Federal Legislation to Support FY Education

Today, the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth introduced a bi-partisan bill that promises to streamline access to foster children’s educational records.

If passed, The Access to Papers Leads to Uninterrupted Scholars Act (A+ Act), would allow foster care agencies and social workers eased access to critical information about how foster children are doing in school, by amending the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, known as FERPA.

The A+ Act was sponsored by Representatives Karen Bass (D-CA), Michelle Bachmann (R-MN), Tom Marino (R-PA) and Jim McDermott (D –WA) who are also co-founders of the new Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth.
