- In a story covered extensively by national media, a new study published in the journal Pediatrics
examined child abuse injuries among American children during the first year of life. In the most reported finding, the study calculated a rate of 58.2 child-abuse-related hospital admissions per 100,000 children, compared to a rate of 50.0 admissions related to SIDS. Researchers found that nationwide 4,569 children under 18 in the hospital in 2006 of whom 300 died. Time Magazine
