Report Released: Youth Homelessness in the Era of AB 12

- When AB 12, California’s Fostering Connections to Success Act, became law in January 2012, it opened a door to the possibility of safety and stability for older homeless youth and youth at risk of homelessness by providing for the expansion of federally funded, mandated supports and services to foster youth ages 18-21. We launched the Alameda County AB 12 Homeless Youth Demonstration Project to coincide with the implementation of this extraordinary new law.

NRCPFC Toolkit for Practitioners and Researchers Working with LGBTQ Runaway and Homeless Youth

- This National Resource Center for Permanency and Family Connections (NRCPFC) has released a new toolkit for practitioners/researchers working with LGBTQ runaway and homeless youth.  The toolkit draws findings from first-hand accounts from interviews, literature reviews, and empirical research. New Monthly Support Group for Families and Caregivers of LGBTQ Youth

- The Youth Acceptance Collaborative (Y.A.C.) is starting a monthly support group for families and caregivers of LGBTQ youth. The first meeting will be on Wednesday August 8th, 6:30pm – 8pm. New Collaborative to Provide Family and Permanency Support for LGBTQ Youth

FYA Call to Action: Support AB 1856 & AB 1909

- Assemblymember Tom Ammiano has authored a pair of bills that will help improve outcomes among foster youth in California, and is asking for letters of support to help speed their passage through the legislature.
